The thinking
Local stone and beetle-kill pine give the house its warmth, steel accents keep the detailing sharp, and varied rooflines break the mass so the building sits into the slope instead of on top of it.
A tree well and rooftop garden pull the landscape into the architecture, and two fireplaces anchor the interior and exterior living spaces so the house is usable in every season.
